European Smart Grid Conference and EERA JP Smart Grids General Assembly 2016

We are happy to report that both the EERA JP Smart Grids Conference and General Assembly were a great success and fulfilled our expectations in every way.

The event, hosted by SINTEF and NTNU in beautiful Trondheim, started on September 20 with the EERA JP Smart Grids Steering Committee where, among others,  last results of ELECTRA project about the web of cells concept  and use cases finalization were illustrated.                     

Trondheim 2On Wednesday 21, in the morning, focus was  on the opening of the Norwegian SmartGrid Laboratory and Demonstration platform. After official speeches, a technical tour to the new SmartGrid Laboratory and to SINTEF Energy Lab gave the opportunity to researchers and policy makers to get aware of the potentialities of the centre and get new ideas about possible cooperation’s.   

In the afternoon, the participants joined the EERA Smart Grid Conference chaired by Luciano Martini, to the right, Coordinator of the EERA JP Smart Grids, Director, T&D Technologies Dept. at RSE and Knut Samdal, Coordinator EERA JP Smart Grids Transmission Network, Research Director at SINTEF Energy Research.

With over 100 European participants, the event kicked-off in the Electro building at Gløshaugen in Trondheim.

At the beginning of the conference, in a video statement, the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy officially opened CINELDI ,the new Centre for intelligent electricity distribution.  Aims, structure and  potentialities of CINELDI were then illustrated by the new Centre manager.

The conference continued with the presentations delivered by EC, Industrial Players, R&D Managers, and public bodies Representatives, who provided an  outlook on Energy System in Europe and on role and contribution of R&D in smart grids for the realization of the goals in the European SET- plan.

The event was closed on September 22 with the EERA JP Smart Grids General Assembly where, in addition to JP governance and formalities, topics emerged in the Conference of the previous day where further developed  in key note speeches. Finally, best practices and possible synergies with other JPs where discussed in a round table with key representatives from EERA and EERA Secretariat and from the following JPs: Energy Storage, Smart Cities and CCS.
