EERA JP Smart Grids Steering Committee Meeting and Workshop on International Cooperation & MI

The Joint Research Centre ( JRC) in Ispra (Italy) hosted the EERA JP Smart Grids Steering Committee meeting and the ELECTRA IRP workshop on International Cooperation, involving also a dedicated Mission Innovation section.
The first day of the event was mainly dedicated to discuss the future activities of the EERA JP SG by considering the changes taking place in the field of smart grids and the new challenges that the JP will face.
The second day was dedicated to the workshop on International Cooperation. The workshop gave the opportunity to analyse and compare the approach of European and Extra EU countries about the research in the smart grid field, also in view of future possible collaborations. Namely two valuable contributions EU from a representative of the Institute of Electrical Engineering Chinese academy of sciences (IEE-CAS) and from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), United States, were delivered. The workshop continued with the presentations of ISGAN SIRFN about research infrastructures ) and of the ELECTRA approach to international collaborations, with a particular focus on the Researchers Exchange program (REX). were presented. Finally three presentation delivered by JRC gave an overview of their research activities in the field of interoperability in the smart grids, PV performances and EMC tests for the electric vehicle, respectively. The second day of the event was concluded with the visit to the JRC laboratories and facilities EIC, Smart Grid lab & VELA 8/9

The third day was focused on Mission Innovation and, namely, on Challenge 1 on smart grids (MI IC#1). Luciano Martini Co-Lead of MI IC#1 , together with the Chinese and the Indian Co-Leads (connected through the web) gave a comprehensive overview of Mission Innovation objectives and activities. Links and synergies with ELECTRA IRP and EERA JP SG were also highlighted. The EERA JP SG Steering Committee continued with a deep discussion about future activities and programme, and the three days meeting was concluded with a visit to the ESTI JRC laboratory.
